In days to come the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; all the nations shall stream to it. Many peoples shall come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth instruction, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations, and shall arbitrate for many peoples; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord!
The word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God…..
Advent is a time of waiting. And preparation. Advent is a time to get ready.
How will you prepare? Shopping, decorating, baking?
How will you prepare? Busyness, muchness, manyness?
How will you prepare?
This morning, let us prepare with hope. Hope that starts small. Hope that believes one candle can make a difference. Hope that one candle can shine brightly and eventually light many others. Hope in God’s extravagant hospitality. Hope in God’s radical justice. Hope in God’s unconditional love. Hope that when God sees despair in the world, we make hope a reality. As we light the first candle of Advent, may we light hope in our hearts. May we birth hope in our lives. May we nurture hope in the world. May we live hope into each and every day. In ordinary and simple ways, one candle, one act of hope at a time. We will prepare to be instruments of your hope, O God. Make us instruments of your hope…
