Community Christian Church - FAQs

Q: Why should I become a member?

Why do people want to join Community Chrisitan Church?

Frequently we hear this question asked of members and staff leaders at Community, "Why do people join Community Christian Church?" While there are no foolproof certified recipes for engaging involving new members we have discerned some reasons why people choose community for their family of face. The following six points did not exhaust Community's congregational agendas for growth, but they do highlight our group possibilities and our growth responsibilities.[less -]

People join because our newcomers, visitors, friends and seekers are urged to join. We are convinced that becoming part of a community of faith helps persons become fulfilled as human beings by enhancing their companionship with others and by reaffirming God's companionship with them. Through affiliating with a congregation, a church member experiences anew Christ's promise "Lo , I am with you always…"

People join because people understand they are best fulfilled as human beings when they experience that regular reverence which is worship. There is an imperative throughout Scripture calling us to "bend the knees" of our lives in honor and respect toward our Creator God. Church membership affords an individual and families the habitual discipline of reverence.

People join because there are many opportunities for hands-on service. There is a fervent yearning within all human beings to experience usefulness, following Jesus' example, in the service of others in need. Many studies show that people are excited about and become involved in congregations which are consistently creating new service opportunities and outreach challenges.

People join because Community's congregation provides an encounter with an extended family. In a fractured society which celebrates hyper-individualism, some people can experience devastating isolation and loneliness. While most people deeply long for the spiritually enriching experience of solitude, there is an even greater, more desperate need for "a sense of belonging." We all want to belong to a group where people know our names, where we are welcomed with open arms, where we are comforted when we are sad or hurt, and where our joys and successes are celebrated.

People join because the fellowship experience at Community helps keep people safe from the temptation of self absorption. We are all too prone to avoid looking outward. But the church, in its worship and its witness, in study and service, in fellowship and in spiritual growth, gives us the encouragement to gaze outward at the whole world. And we know we need this outward orientation.
